2026年美加墨世界杯，首次参赛的佛得角队用不可思议的表现震惊了世界。这支人口仅50余万、世界排名第67位的非洲岛国球队，在世界杯的四场比赛中，三次遭遇冠军球队，均于常规时间顽强逼平，成为史上首支单届战平三支冠军队的队伍。

At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Cape Verde, making their World Cup debut, stunned the world with a remarkable run.

A nation of just over half a million people. Ranked 67th in the world. An island nation championand held each of them to a draw in regulation time. No team in World Cup history had ever done that before.

Looking back, the match that secured their place in the knockout stage was played right here…at the China-aided National Stadium in Praia.

Football Federation Vice President Paulo Santos said it from the heart: "The Chinese people are our dear friends. Our brothers."

Thirteen thousand kilometers away, in Leshan, China, a few people watched with tears in their eyes.

Let's go back a few years. Three doctors from Leshan traveled all the way to these volcanic islands in the Atlantic.

On islands short of doctors and medicine, they were obstetricians, anesthesiologists and more than that, they had to do a bit of everything. Whatever came through the door. The locals called them "Chinese friends."

Now, watching Cape Verde make history at the World Cup, those days on the islands came flooding back.
