A nation of just over half a million people. Ranked 67th in the world. An island nation champion and held each of them to a draw in regulation time. No team in World Cup history had ever done that before.

Looking back, the match that secured their place in the knockout stage was played right here…at the China-aided National Stadium in Praia.

时间倒回几年前。乐山的三位医生，跨越一万三千公里，来到了这片大西洋上的火山群岛。

Let's go back a few years. Three doctors from Leshan traveled all the way to these volcanic islands in the Atlantic.

在缺医少药的岛上，他们是妇产科医生、是麻醉医生——更是什么都要会、什么都要干的综合性医生，也是当地人口中的“中国朋友”。

On islands short of doctors and medicine, they were obstetricians, anesthesiologists and more than that, they had to do a bit of everything. Whatever came through the door. The locals called them "Chinese friends."

如今看着佛得角在世界杯上创造历史，那些远在岛上的日子，又浮现在他们眼前。
